Distinguished and Famous people from Noosa Coast

📚 Nancy Cato

Nancy Cato moved to Noosa in 1967, bringing an established career as a poet, journalist and novelist to a new coastal home. Her best-known fiction included All the Rivers Run, but her local contribution also involved a determined interest in conservation. The Noosa Story examined development and the environmental pressures facing the district. Friendship with Judith Wright helped deepen her ecological interests, linking literary work with campaigning. For Cato, the landscape was more than attractive scenery: it was a place whose future could be argued over, researched and defended in print.

🎭 David Williamson

David Williamson helped establish the Noosa Longweekend festival, adding a substantial local arts project to a career already familiar through The Removalists, Don’s Party and The Club. He and his wife, writer Kristin Williamson, made their home on the Sunshine Coast. The festival association brought theatre and other performances into Noosa’s cultural calendar, extending his contribution beyond supplying plays for distant stages. His dramas often turn on ambition, status and people who insist they are being perfectly reasonable. A resort district, like a football club or dinner party, is unlikely to run short of human material.
